Camping at Disney!

Disney Fort Wilderness Campground is certainly not a traditional hotel that most visitors choose for their visit to Mickey’s world. Disney Fort Wilderness Resort is one of the oldest resorts in Walt Disney. It opened a month after the Magic Kingdom in 1971. For me, it remains one of the most special places on the site. Without hesitation, I affirm that the Disney Fort Wilderness campground is the most beautiful campsite I have visited to date.

The Disney Fort Wilderness Campground

Set in 750 acres of pine and cypress forests, this magical place evokes the very essence of Walt Disney World’s imagination. Most importantly, the Disney Fort Wilderness Campground is the only pet-friendly resort on Walt Disney World. If that does not convince you to stay here, read on!

The Disney Fort Wilderness Campground is an attraction in itself, as is a visit to Magic Kingdom. If you visit this unique resort, you will want to take full advantage of it. Keep in your itinerary a few days to just enjoy the campground!

At Disney’s Fort Wilderness, you can sing and roast marshmallows with Chip ‘n Dale and watch Disney classics in a theater under the stars.

You will be able to watch the electric water pageant from the campground beach everynight.

Animation and Disney-themed games are always on the program at the Meadow Pool. It features fun waterslides, a hot tub and a kiddie pool.

A smaller pool is open 24 hours a day.

You can visit the ranch and farm to see a blacksmith fix horseshoes (some days) on the Cinderella ponies and the horses seen in the Magic Kingdom parades. Carriage rides and pony rides are available.

In addition to all this, you will have at your disposal a variety of recreational facilities:

  • Arcades
  • Playgrounds
  • Bike paths and bike rental
  • Rental of boats, canoes, kayaks and fishing equipment
  • Tennis, Basketball and Volleyball

Restaurants on-site

Two fast-food options available: P & J’s Southern Takeout Restaurant and Meadow’s Snack Bar, where you can eat quickly before heading to the parks or enjoy a snack by the pool.

Trail’s End Restaurant is a casual restaurant serving a buffet for breakfast and dinner.

Two dinner shows are presented on the site: the musical review Hoop-Dee-Doo and the famous Mickey’s Backyard BBQ. Mickey’s Backyard BBQ is a great opportunity to meet Mickey, Minnie and their friends without having to wait in line at the parks. Warning! Reservations are reccomended.

Same benefits as a Walt Disney Hotel.

When you stay at a Walt Disney Resort, including the Disney Fort Wilderness Campground, you get all of the following benefits:

You will be able to make FastPass + reservation and bookings at the most popular restaurants before everyone else. This means that with a little planning you will be able to pick up reservations for the most popular rides and restaurants at a time that suits you.

Every day, at least one park offers hours of exclusive access to Disney Resort guests, allowing you to access the rides in less busy periods. During Extra Magic Hours, guests can enter a park an hour earlier or stay in a park up to two hours later than regular park hours.

You will get personalized MagicBands for free! Very practical, these little magnetic bracelets serve as room key, gives access to the parks and your FastPass+ reservations. It allows Disney photographers to easily link your pictures to your Disney App. Combined with a 4-digit code, you can also use it to make payments in Disney parks and stores.

You wont have to drive! You can use the shuttles. You will save $ 20 / day on parking on Disney Theme Park parking fee.

Combien ça coute?

The big question! Remember that when you check the campsite rates, you do not have to pay for parking at Disney. in fact, you wont have to drive! You can use the shuttles. You will save $ 20 / day on parking on Disney Theme Park parking fee.

Which site to choose?

No matter which type of site you choose for your stay, it wont be assigned to you in advance. You will know your site number when you check-in. You can, however, share your preferences and request a particular site or section when booking. I reccomend you favor a section near the Meadow Outpost circled in yellow on the map below. You will be near most activities, the main pool, a shop and the famous campfire with Chip ‘n Dale.

Good to know

  • There are 15 sanitary blocks strategically located in the campsite. Many loops have their own station. Some of the smaller loops share a single station located in the center. The sanitary blocks are all air-conditioned and include private showers, toilets, washers and dryers, and ice machines. They are open 24 hours, but have security locks activated from midnight to 6 am.
  • The camping is big and to move you it is better to opt for the shuttles at your disposal.
  • Bring your bikes for more flexibility.
  • Renting a golf cart to get around is an interresting option and costs about $ 60 USD per day.
  • Pets are allowed only if your equipment has air conditioning.
  • A kennel service with an excellent reputation is offered near the campsite. The days can be long for doggie when the family has fun in the parks.

A visit to Walt Disney needs to be planned several months in advance. For those who want to take advantage of the most popular experiences, Disney offers you the opportunity to start planning 6 months in advance. Thanks to their intuitive website and My Disney Experience application you will be able to see every detail of your stay. I am preparing a second article on the subject shortly!

Have a magical day!
